Homework for 10/28

Please forgive me for not getting Thursday's and Fridays' homework from last week posted to the blog.  However, you should have received an email message from me showing the homework for those days.  If not, please email me at roseinthemorningATgmailDOTcom to request to be added to the daily homework email list.  (Make sure to change AT to @ and DOT to .)

The homework for tonight (Mon., Oct. 28) is as follows:

Math:  p. 73-74, Test Tom. (Tom. means "Tomorrow")
Reading:  Quiz on Chapter 1 Tom. (from The Swiss Family Robinson)
Science:  Worksheet
Spelling: Write List 12 - 5x

Many students finished their Math and Science, but not ALL students.  Also, a few finished their Spelling words.

I stressed to the students several times today (making sure they heard me and (hopefully) understood) that they need to start being serious about taking responsibility for their homework.  Please help me by reinforcing this at home.

Please remember that we plan to start a Reading Log incentive program in November.  This means, your child will need to read every night and record the information on a Reading Log which I will be sending home.

Plan for 10/28 through 11/1

Math

On Tuesday, the students will be taking a test which covers a few division problems, some addition and subtraction, as well as several multiplication problems.  Students need to review, review, review, and memorize, memorize, memorize their multiplication facts.

The rest of this week, the students will be learning how to divide with a remainder.  Six will be introduced as a factor.  Please continue to drill multiplication facts with your child daily.

Language Arts

Rules for making singular words that end in "y" plural will be introduced this week.  Also, irregular plural words (such as children and mice) will be introduced.  We will review all types of ways to make singular words plural.

Next Monday (Nov. 4th), there will be a test on all types of plural words.

Reading

We will be starting Swiss Family Robinson this week.  There may be surprise quizzes on what we've been reading.  Please continue to encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each evening.  I plan to introduce a Reading Log incentive starting in November.

Science

Students need to continue to work on their Science Notebook projects which will be on-going for several weeks.  There is not a due date... yet.  Please carefully read the information sheet I sent home last week.  Your child's grade on this project will depend in large part on how well he or she follows directions.

There will probably be a quiz on Wednesday mostly covering the terms on page 65.

History

Most students did well (earning an A or B) on their test this past Friday.  Thank you for being diligent in reminding your child to study and perhaps in helping him or her to study.  This week, we will be looking at William Penn.  I have already learned something new about him that I didn't know.  So, I'm hoping it will be fun for all of us as we learn together!  There will be a quiz on Friday covering pages 62-71.

Spelling

Wednesday will be the pre-test for list 12.  And, the final test will be on Thursday or Friday, depending on how things go after the pre-test on Wednesday.

Beginning a New Way to Communicate

After meeting with many of the parents of my third grade class as Samoa Baptist Academy, I am hopeful to begin a new way of communication.  I intend to send out a weekly email to all the parents for whom I have email addresses.  Also, I hope this blog will be a place where students and parents alike can come to find out current homework assignments and what we're doing in class.  (To get school-specific information, you'll need to contact the school office either via email at samoa_baptist_academyATyahoo.com (You will need to change the word "AT" to the @ symbol) or by phone at (684) 699-9254.

You can email me directly at roseinthemorningATgmail.com (Again, you will need to change the word "AT" to the @ symbol.)
