Plan for 11/4 through 11/8

Thank you for those who have returned signed report cards to me.  There are still seven (7) students who need to return their report cards.

Math

This week, the students will be reviewing how to divide with a remainder.  Six will be introduced as a factor THIS week (instead of last week) as it seemed more practice was needed on division.  Please continue to drill multiplication facts with your child daily.  Also, please review with them how division and multiplication relate.  We do this in class, but they need lots of repetition.

On Thursday, the students will be taking a test.  Students need to review, review, review, and memorize, memorize, memorize their multiplication facts... especially 3, 4, 5, and 6.

On Friday, the students and I will hopefully begin to look more closely at how to solve story problems.

Language Arts

Monday, there will be a test on all types of plural words.  The rest of this week, we will be looking at different kinds of contractions such as isn'taren't, and won't.  Also, there is and there are will be introduced.

Reading

We will be continuing Swiss Family Robinson.  Again, there may be surprise quizzes on what we've been reading.  Please continue to encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each evening.  I am still working on the best way to present a Reading Log incentive.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Science

Students need to continue to work on their Science Notebook projects which will be on-going for several more weeks.  There is now a due date!  The Science Notebook projects will be due on Thursday, December 12.  If your child will not be in school on that day or on the last day prior to Christmas Break, he/she will need to turn it in BEFORE they leave school for Christmas Break.  Please carefully read the information sheet I sent home.  If you have questions, please let me know.  Your child's grade on this project will depend in large part on how well he or she follows directions... including turning it in ON TIME!

There is to be a quiz on Tuesday covering pages 54-63.

There will be a Test on Thursday (Nov. 7) on all of Chapter 3 (Vertebrates).

History

This week, we will be looking at Benjamin Franklin and almanacs.  (If you happen to have an almanac that I could show to the class, I'd greatly appreciate it.)  There will be a quiz on Friday covering pages 72-83.

Spelling

Wednesday will be the pre-test for list 13.  And, the final test will be on Thursday or Friday, depending on how things go after the pre-test on Wednesday.
